Architecture Preview #1

La Pedrera, Spain

1. Antoni Gaudi was the one who architected the building.
2. It was built from 1906 to 1912.
3. It is located in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain.
4. Yes, one can visit the building.
5. It does not state the cost of the construction of the building.
6. The idea was to erect a building on a plot on the boundary of Barcelona and Gracia, as a family home, but with also apartments for rent, which turned the building into the new residential area.
7. I picked this building because it is not only unique and one cannot see a building like this on a daily basis, but because of the curves the house had. Its undulating stone facade and twisting wrought iron balconies and windows definitely added to . I also like this building because I believe it allows one to understand and gain a deep knowledge of the work of Antoni Gaudi. I also think it would be neat to visit the house and look at the interior of the house. Lastly, I am also curious to see the planning Gaudi had drawn from scratch while architecting this building.

Kunsthaus Graz, Austria

1. Peter Cook and Colin Fournier designed the building.
2. Kunsthaus Graz was built in 2003.
3. It is located in Graz, Austria.
4. It is a public building.
5. It does not state how much it cost to build the Kunsthaus Graz.
6. Kunsthaus Graz was built for the European Cultural Capital 2003 activities in Graz, Austria.
7. I think this building is appealing to look at because of its odd appearance and its displacement amongst the surrounding landscape. Although the building makes a statement, its environment impact is very low, as the building's organic roof generates energy with the cool panels. It adds color and style to its surroundings in other words. I also think it would be neat to see the art displays located in the building. Lastly, I am interested to see the materials that were used during the process of building Kunsthaus Graz.

Eden Project, United Kingdom

1. Nicholas Grimshaw architected the Eden project, United Kingdom.
2. The construction began in 1995. It was not open to the public until 2000-2002.
3. It is located at the St Blazey, Cornwall, UK.
4. The building is open to the public.
5. It cost a little over 150 million US dollars to build the Eden Project.
6. It was built in order to showcase the world's most important plants, therefore, need to have a very, very large space.
7. Although I am not very found of the outside appearance of the building, I am very interested in the gardens they have in the building. It is said that one should not judge a book by its cover. Therefore, that being said, I believe one should visit the Eden Project because of what they display. While researching, I was very interested in the early sketches of the Eden vision and then see the result and the success of the construction of the project. Lastly, I was not only interested in the project itself, but the vast green land around it. The Eden Project seems like a very welcoming place.

Turning Torso, Sweden

1. Santiago Calatrava architected the Turning Torso.
2. Construction began on February 14, 2001 and it opened on August 27, 2005.
3. It is located in Malmo, Sweden.
4. The Turning Torso is a residential building, however allow the public to visit floor 53/54 only on special scheduled days.
5. I could not find the exact total cost of the construction of the building.
6. The Turning Torso building was designed to be seen as a free standing sculptural element posed posed within the cityscape. It was designed for a prominent urban site and was conceived to enhance and enlarge a public area.
7. I like this building because of the "turning" motion/curve it has. When I researched the building, I got to see the layout inside and was amazed of the shapes of the walls which made the whole set up unique. I also believe its height as well as the choice of color the building has, stands out from the whole city. This I think adds color and culture to the environment. If I had the money, I would totally be interested in renting an apartment and having a gorgeous view.

Burj Al Arab, Dubai, UAE

1. Tom Wright of Atkins architected the building.
2. Construction began in 1994, however it did not open until December of 1999.
3. It is located in the United Arab Emirates or the UAE.
4. The building is a hotel therefore, people may stay if they have the money.
5. It cost 1 billion US dollars to build the building.
6. There is no specific reason for why it was built.
7. I like this building because of how huge and vast it looks from afar. It looks clean and environment friendly which creates a soothing, luxurious tone. I like the way the glass shimmers and changes to the color its surroundings are. I also love how there is also some designing at the bottom of the building which consists of a small green area surrounding the building which creates to the tone. Therefore, if I had the money to stay at this building I would not only be fascinated by the architecture, but where the building is located.

Sensory Overload and Sports/Action Assignment

Sensory Overload - Warm-Up

"I believe that more and more, we are defining our environments not as the spaces themselves, in terms of the buildings or architecture, but rather by the objects and devices that we buy and surround ourselves with... I would like that message to carry universally," Seymour said.

1. I agree with the statement mentioned above because individuals should not judge what the architecture of the building or place looks like where they are photographing. Instead, the photographers should focus mainly on what is inside the buildings; just as individuals should not judge a book by its cover. Knowing this made me realize that the details are important.

2. I would personally not want to visit the places because of how cluttered each room was. However, I think it would be neat to capture portraits of people that are surrounded with their products.

3. I think it would be interesting to be the child of someone who worked at this place because there are cool products that I could play with and be a part of a unique environment.

4. My favorite photo is the seller that sits among the artificial flowers because it has a good composition rule of Frame. This was achieved by the clutter of artificial flowers that made the subject stand out.
